The collision resulted in 13 injured passengers, suffering minor injuries (mainly bumps and bruises). The freight vessel was loaded with corn. The accident occurred at ~10:20 am. Of the 13 injured, 3 were transported by an ambulance to a hospital. Technical experts assessed the vessel's hull. Its bow was smashed. The freight barge sustained severe bow damages, resulting in water ingress and oil pollution. The river cruise ship (under voyage charter by a Spanish company) was en-route from Amsterdam Holland to Basel Switzerland, carrying a total of 180 passengers plus 50 crew. The Arosa boat was later escorted by a fireboat to Schnellenburg for inspection. The cargo barge was stabilized (by using dewatering pumps) and towed to Neuss by a fireboat. Reportedly, the collision was due to barge's faulty bow thruster. |
