24 July 2017Fire AccidentOn July 24, 2017, at ~1:40 pm, a fire broke out on the Arosa ship Riva. During the accident, the riverboat was navigating on Danube River, near Melk Austria (Schoenbuehel-Aggsbach village, west of Vienna). The fire broke out in the ship's Sauna area. The Captain immediately dropped anchor and the crew started to extinguish the fire. Eight people suffered heavy smoke poisoning. They were treated from smoke inhalation by the dispatched Red Cross personnel and emergency physicians from Melk. The ship was carrying 189 people (150 passengers and 39 crew). They were all transferred to another river ship (Travelmarvel Sapphire / formerly Avalon Tapestry) that dropped anchor nearby. The Travelmarvel boat disembarked the Arosa passengers and crew in Durnstein Austria. The two most seriously injured (male crew who tried to extinguish the fire) were medevaced via emergency ambulance helicopters. The ship was first docked in Melk for inspection, then departed for Linz Austria for shipyard repairs. |
