07 September 2023Structural and Technical IssuesOn September 7, 2023, Virgin Voyages announced the delayed launch of Brilliant Lady, which resulted in the cancellation of three voyages. The cancellations also affected the Maiden Voyage (Dec 24, 2023) which was postponed to January 13, 2024. Addressing the issue, the cruise company stated "Despite careful planning, Virgin Voyages is facing unexpected construction, supply chain and staffing challenges that have delayed the introduction into service of its new ship, Brilliant Lady. Virgin Voyages is evaluating new possible launch dates when it is able to deliver the standard the brand’s sailors [passengers] have come to expect”. Next are listed the three canceled itineraries. (2023 Dec 30) 7-day New Year Cruise ("Brilliant Lady San Juan MerMaiden"), from US$3850 pp

Shane Riley (Virgin Voyages' VP of UK and International Sales) expressed regret for the delay and reassured customers that they would enjoy the upcoming itineraries. As compensation, all affected bookings were fully refunded (paid back to the original form of payment). With rebooking, customers received the same cabin category and US$300 discount (off the cruise fare) plus US$1000 in OBC/onboard credit per stateroom. |
