24 February 2024Boat Rescue(CruiseMapper-emailed report from Ayden Bermudez) We were on Carnival Celebration, completing the 7-day Western Cruise (Feb18-25) when the ship's Master (Captain Vincenzo Alcaras) informed us about people on a boat. There were a lot of people and they were taking on water before the ship's crew rescued them. The Captain made the announcement at 4:28 pm (Feb 24) and there were 21 people on board. The boat was sinking at the time and all of them were healthy. The boat was off the coast of Havana (Cuba) at the time. They were picked up by the US Coast Guard at 6:22 pm. The incident occurred at the end of the 7-day roundtrip voyage from homeport Miami (Florida USA) visiting Mexico (Cozumel/Feb 20), Honduras (Isla Roatan's Mahogany Bay/Feb 22), and Mexico (Costa Maya/Feb 23). |
