The Carnival Corporation-owned vessel was previously operated under the names Carnival Tropicale (1981-2000, by CCL-Carnival Cruise Lines), Costa Tropicale (2000-2005, by Costa Cruises), Pacific Star (2005-2008, by P&O Australia) and last as Ocean Dream (2008-2012. by Pullmantur Cruises, and 2012-2019, by Peace Boat Japan).
01 January 2021Structural and Technical Issues(scrapped) In September 2020, Peace Boat (bareboat charterer) announced the replacing of its two contracts (for Ocean Dream and Pullmantur Zenith) with a larger cruise ship charter (MS Pacific World/ex Sun Princess) scheduled to start voyages in 2021-Q1. In November, Carnival Corporation (shipowner) sold Ocean Dream for scrap. On January 1, 2021, the liner was beached at India's Alang Ship Breaking Yard and subsequently dismantled/scrapped. The vessel's last drydock refurbishment was in 2017. |
02 December 2019Coast Guard Medevacs(MS Ocean Dream/Peace Boat) On December 2, 2019, a 68-year-old male crew (Higeno Masaru, Japanese citizen) was medevaced by Selangor MMEA (Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency / Malaysia Coastguard). The man (having breathing difficulties) was offloaded to an MMEA boat deployed at 2 pm. The cruise ship was en-route to Penang Island, approx 10 km (6 mi) off the southern coast of Pulau Ketam (Crab Island), which is to the west of Port Klang (Selangor, Malaysia). The Japanese crew was transferred to Port Klang from where ambulanced to Pantai Hospital (Kuala Lumpur). |
18 June 2009Cruise Illness / Virus Outbreaks(MS Ocean Dream/Pullmantur Cruises) On June 18, 2009, was reported a swine flu outbreak onboard while the ship was on an "Around Central and South America" cruise itinerary. It had to dock in El Guamache (Margarita Island, Venezuela) to disembark the 342 Venezuelan passengers, before continuing to the next call port Oranjestad Aruba. On June 20, all passengers were disembarked in Oranjestad. Reportedly, all passengers and crew (over 1200) were quarantined/locked in their cabins when the vessel docked at Margarita Island on June 24. A total of 14 crew had the swine flu (H1N1) symptoms. On June 18, the shipowner Pullmantur denied that there was an illness incident and that Venezuela quarantined the liner until June 24. According to the company's statement, the vessel left Margarita Island with 198 Spanish and 151 Colombian passengers. According to Pullmantur, the 14 infected crew were all improving. |
27 January 2009Crew / Passenger Deaths(MS Ocean Dream/Pullmantur Cruises) On January 27, 2009, a 38-year-old female crew (of Colombian origin) was reported missing. The woman failed to return to the ship after disembarkation in Kingstown (Saint Vincent Island, Grenadines). |
01 January 2008Crew / Passenger Crimes(MS Pacific Star / sexual) On January 5, 2008, when the ship docked in call port Lifou Island (New Caledonia), it was boarded by local police officers who removed a 37-year-old male passenger. The man (of Australian origin) allegedly sexually assaulted a 46-year-old female passenger. The woman (from New Zealand) was found in the early hours of January 1 with bruises and in a state of shock. She told the French police that she was raped in his stateroom, but was too drunk to recall details on the crime. According to the accused, the sexual act was consensual. |
December 2007Propulsion / Power Loss(MS Pacific Star) On December 20, 2007, ended an 11-night South Pacific Islands cruise to Tonga and Fiji. Due to engine problems, the itinerary was changed with 2 call ports skipped - Vava’u (Tonga) and Yasawa (Rara Fiji) As compensation, all passengers received AUD 100 in onboard credit. As the problems continued, on the next scheduled 8-night Christmas Cruise (Dec 20-28) call port Ouvea Island (New Caledonia) was dropped, allowing the liner to remained overnight in Noumea (New Caledonia) for repairs. Passengers received as compensation AUD 50 in onboard credit. |
06 October 2007Fire Accident(MS Pacific Star) On October 6, 2007, the ship experienced a small fire accident (in the engine room's electrical panel). The crew was mustered. The fire was quickly extinguished and without injuries.

07 August 2007Structural and Technical Issues(MS Pacific Star) August 7, 2007, departure from Auckland NZ was delayed by ~30 hours due to maintenance works. The ship's toilets were not working as a corroded pipe had to be repaired. On August 9, the ship was still docked at Princes Wharf. At ~7 am, the current cruise (Auckland to Brisbane) was officially cancelled. As compensation, all passengers received full refunds plus 25% future P&O Australia cruise booking discount. |
09 March 2003Drug Smuggling(MS Costa Tropicale) On March 9, 2003, Brazilian police officers found on the ship 50 kg of cocaine hidden in passenger suitcases.

19 September 1999Propulsion / Power Loss(MS Carnival Tropicale) On September 19, 1999, the ship suffered an engine room fire accident while en-route from Cozumel Mexico back to homeport Tampa Florida. The vessel remained disabled (drifting without propulsion) in the Gulf of Mexico for 2 days. No injuries were reported. |
