13 April 2023Crew / Passenger Deaths(overboard) On the evening on April 13, 2023, an 18-year-old male passenger jumped off the ship and died, soon after Costa Toscana left Port Civitavecchia/Rome en route to Genoa. The victim was a German teenager traveling with his mother and sister. They later confirmed that the young man suffered from depression. He intentionally went overboard, in full view of other passengers who alarmed the crew after seeing the body falling into the sea, approx 11 km / 7 mi off Lazio's coast. The cruise liner stopped and immediately lowered a lifeboat, starting a search and rescue operation. The Italian Coast Guard (Corps of the Port Captaincies) dispatched a patrol boat within minutes, but the body was recovered after ~2 hours. The incident occurred at the beginning of a 7-day Mediterranean Voyage roundtrip from homeport Civitavecchia (itinerary Apr 13-20) with call ports in Italy (Genoa/Apr 14), France (Marseille/Apr 15), Spain (Barcelona/Arp 16), Sardinia (Cagliari/Apr 18) and Naples (Apr 19). |
26 February 2022Other IncidentsOn January 30, 2022, Costa Cruises announced that before the maiden Voyage (departing from Savona on March 5th), onboard the ship will be held "J Spring Fashion Show 2022". The fashion event (hosted by Jessica Minh Anh/CEO of JMA Global) was scheduled for February 28th. The access to the show was limited/invitation-only, and mainly luxury fashion brands, global media representatives and VIPs. The participating brands included Montblanc (Germany), Paul Costelloe (Ireland), Yumi Katsura (Japan), Ziad Nakad (Lebanon), Tony Ward (Lebanon), Shiatzy Chen (Taiwan). Among the VIPs are Mario Zanetti (Costa's President). |
