18 June 2020Fire Accident

In the early evening on June 18, 2020, the cruiseferry reported a cargo deck fire. The accident occurred upon the arrival at homeport Olbia (Sardinia Island, Italy) from Livorno (mainland Italy). The fire erupted in a refrigerator truck and was caused by a shortcut. Reportedly, thick black smoke billowed from the vehicle deck and up to the upper decks.

Firefighters and Coastguard emergency teams boarded the ship to assist the crew fighting the fire. The vessel was carrying ~150 passengers and safely berthed at ~18:30 UTC. No injures or major damages were reported.

Cruise Bonaria was temporarily taken out of service and remained docked at Port Olbia through June 22, restarting ferry crossings (Livorno-Olbia route) on June 23.
