(pirate attack / armed robbery) On July 14, 2016, the operated by Delfin Amazon Cruises riverboat was navigating on Peruvian Amazon waterways (in Loreto region) when the ship was attacked by pirates.

Onboard were a total of 61 passengers and crew, including the 33 Peruvian crew, 20 from the USA, 6 from Australia and 2 from New Zealand. A group of 8 armed men attacked the boat at ~3 am, in the middle of the jungle.

The pirates were armed with large-caliber weapons. For ~30 min, they robbed all passengers, taking personal possessions and cash (~USD 20,000).
