10 November 2024Boat RescueOn November 10, 2024, the ship responded to a distress call and successfully rescued 4 sailors stranded on a boat in the Atlantic Ocean. Positioned southwest of Bermuda, the catamaran Serenity had begun to take on water, prompting its skipper to issue a distress signal to the USCG/Coast Guard. Being the nearest vessel, Disney Treasure changed course immediately, and navigated toward the boat's location. The crew launched a rescue boat and brought the four sailors safely aboard from the sinking catamaran. The ship was mastered by Captain Marco Nogara. The incident occurred during Disney Treasure's Transatlantic crossing (crew-only voyage, October 29-Nov 11) from Europe to the USA, where the ship was scheduled to start revenue operations from Port Canaveral (Orlando, Florida) on November 12th. Before changing course to assist the rescue, the ship made an overnight bunkering call (Nov 3-4) in Funchal (Madeira Portugal). |
