22 August 2019Fire AccidentOn August 22, 2019, at~5:30 am, while moored in St Petersburg (at Salt Pier on Oktyabrskaya Embankment Street, on Neva River's right bank), the cruise ship suffered a fire accident. The fire started in a crew cabin (of a mechanic engineer) located on Deck 1. A total of 320 people (240 passengers plus 80 staff and crew) were immediately evacuated from the vessel. By 6:10 am, the fire was localized (in the crew cabin / sized ~13 m2) and soon extinguished from the ship's internal fire pipeline. Firefighters' access to the large riverboat was difficult as it was berthed as second in a line. The rescuers had to get to MS Tchaikovsky through the alongside berthed river cruise ship MS Sergei Diaghilev. The accident resulted in one killed - the 25-year-old mechanic from whose cabin the fire broke out. The man was severely injured and died on the way to the hospital. Injuries among passengers and crew were not reported. All cruisers were accommodated in the terminal's restaurant. |
