28 July 2018Crew / Passenger Injuries and Overboards

(MS Bremen/Hapag-Lloyd) On July 28, 2018, a polar bear attacked and injured a male guard who was leading the cruise ship tourists on a shore excursion. The bear was shot dead by another guard. The attack occurred when the passengers landed on Spitsbergen Island (Norway). The injured man was medevaced (transported by helicopter) to Longyearbyen (on Spitsbergen).
