20 September 2020Ship Grounding(Viking Amorella) On September 20, 2020, at ~12:50-noon Finnish time (~9 am UTC) the cruise ship run aground (made ground contact / touched the seabed) south of Port Langnas (Aland Islands, Finland). Video footage posted on the Finnish coastguard's Twitter showed rescue boats evacuating the passengers and crew. No injuries or water ingress were reported. The cruiseferry was en route from Turku (Finland) to Stockholm (Sweden) when “stuck on the ground” south of Langnas. According to the coastguard report, "The ship pushed itself to the shore of the island to stabilise the situation. Several units were alerted and several ships were on-site in preparation for the evacuation." Viking Line also reported "no human casualties", adding that the situation with the vessel is stable. Viking Amorella was carrying 198 passengers plus 80 crew. Maritime authorities started an investigation of the accident. |
01 February 2015Crew / Passenger Crimes(Viking Amorella/sexual) On February 1, 2015, Finnish police arrested 8 male passengers and charged them with the gang rape of a 45-year-old female passenger on the ship. Allegedly, the woman was sexually assaulted in her cabin on January 30, while the ferry was in Finnish waters, en route from Stockholm to Turku. |
14 December 2013Ship Grounding(Viking Amorella) On December 14, 2013, at ~0:40 am, the ship lost power (propulsion) and ran aground in Foglo (Aland Islands). No injuries or serious hull damages (leaks) were reported, although there was a bow ballast tank breach. The ferry was carrying a total of 1945 passengers. The accident occurred en route from Turku to Stockholm. After ~12 hours, the power was restored and the ferry continued the crossing to Mariehamn Aland, where all passengers were allowed to stay onboard overnight. On December 15, they were transferred to the fleet mates Viking Grace (to Turku) and Viking Rosella (to Stockholm). |
04 March 2010Ship Collision / Allision(Viking Amorella) On March 4, 2010, due to difficult ice conditions in Aland Sea (Baltic Sea), the ship collided with Finnfellow ferry near Tjarven Island. Amorella, along with other ships, had to be rescued by icebreaking vessels. During the stranding, the ferry collided with Finnfellow. The accident resulted in portside hull damage (dent). No injuries were reported. |
