The accident occurred during a 21-day Panama Canal repositioning cruise (from Miami to Los Angeles) with call ports in Florida (Key West), Colombia (Cartagena), Panama City, Costa Rica (Golfito, Puerto Caldera-Puntarenas), Guatemala (Puerto Quetzal) and Mexico (Puerto Chiapas, Huatulco, Cabo San Lucas).
