13 December 2008Propulsion / Power Loss(MS Le Diamant) On December 13, 2008, while navigating in South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands, the vessel encountered strong winds and suffered structural damages (to the stern-mounted Zodiac landing platform). It also suffered partial power loss, as 1 of its 2 diesel engines failed. The rest of the Antarctica cruise was cancelled by Ponant Cruises. The ship returned directly back to homeport Ushuaia Argentina for repairs, before the next scheduled departure (Dec 20), which was not affected. |
