June 2020Other IncidentsBetween June 26 and August 15, 2020, Š¢allink Grupp temporary deployed the cruiseferry Silja Serenade on the Finland-Latvia route Helsinki-Riga, while the ship's regularly scheduled service was on the Finland-Sweden route Helsinki-Stockholm. The new route was served with regular daily departures from both ports throughout the entire summer. The revised schedule and its arrival-departure times allowed travellers to enjoy leisurely overnight cruises on Silja Serenade and spend the next day exploring the capital city.
Tallink also offered its customers cruise-and-hotel packages to Riga (inclusive of Tallink Hotel Riga overnight stays) plus discount-priced tickets to local attractions. |
13 November 2017Crew / Passenger Deaths(overboard) On November 13, 2017, a 21-year-old male passenger was reported jumped overboard from Deck 12 (height 30 m / 100 ft to sea level). The young man (Portuguese student) allegedly jumped off the ship after a disagreement with other passengers at Atlantic Palace (disco nightclub). The Finnish Border Guard conducted a search and rescue operation dispatching vessels from Turku Finland. In the search for the missing passenger also participated 3 passenger ships, 1 rescue helicopter (dispatched from Sweden) and Finnish Navy patrol boats dispatched from Aland (Kokar Island and Mariehamn). The incident happened at ~2 am. The water temperature in the Baltic Sea was reportedly around 10 Celsius (50 Fahrenheit). The search was canceled at ~5:45 am. The body was never found. |
09 March 2007Ship Collision / AllisionOn March 9, 2007, was reported a near collision incident caused by a power failure on a Swedish cargo ship en-route to Stockholm. The ferry's Navigation Bridge team reacted fast and prevented the collision. Reportedly, the distance between both vessels was 60-200 m (200-650 ft). Radio contact was established after the incident. |
