May 2020Structural and Technical Issuesin mid-May 2020, Silversea Cruises announced that due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic (shipbuilding yard closure), the vessel's delivery from Shipyard De Hoop BV (Lobith, Holland) will be delayed. The delay was mainly due to the EU's country lockdowns (border closures) and suspended outfitting. Most of the customized for the cruise ship items (furniture, carpets, artworks) became stuck in customs for ~3 months. Most of these items were produced in Italy (indoor furniture); the USA and China (outdoor furniture, fixtures) and the UK (artworks). As result, 7 itineraries were cancelled and Silver Origin's Inaugural Cruise was rescheduled from July 8 to August 22 (later to Sept 5). Next table shows the originally planned maiden voyage (8-day Galapagos itinerary) as port dates. Prices started from ~USD 12800 per person.
Due to the closure of Fincantieri's Sestri Ponente Shipyard (near Genoa, Italy) also was delayed the delivery of the fleetmate Silver Moon. |
