02 November 2024Structural and Technical Issues

On November 2, 2024, while still under construction at Rauma Marine Constructions/RMC's shipyard in Rauma (Finland), the vessel broke its mooring lines and contacted a dock due to “hurricane-force winds”.

Assisted by three tugboats, the ferry was moved to a layup berth at RMC.

Reports said that Spirit of Tasmania V is afloat (no hull breach), safe, and secured, with all necessary precautions taken to protect it.

Subsequent inspections revealed no significant damage, but RMC planned to drydock it for further evaluation.

At the time of the accident, the vessel was ~86% complete.
