18 August 2023Crew / Passenger Deaths(overboard) On August 18, 2023, at ~11 am Scotland (~10 am UTC), while the ship was docked at Saltburn Pier in Port Cromarty Firth/Invergordon (Scotland UK), a 40-year-old male crew fell overboard and later died from sustained injuries. Reportedly, the man (Filipino, employed as Fireman/Seaman) fell while securing the gangway/passenger bridge on deck 2 and hit the concrete pier before falling into the water. Immediately, the Scottish Ambulance Service deployed to the scene two land ambulances, an air ambulance/helicopter as well as a specialized trauma team/critical care paramedic. The man was provided with swift and professional medical assistance on site and was expeditiously airlifted and flown to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary (in Foresterhill) for medical attention. Unfortunately, despite all the efforts, the man succumbed to his injuries and died in the hospital a few hours later on the same day. The casualty was reported to Health & Safety Scotland and Police Scotland. The incident occurred during the 14-day voyage from Bergen (Norway) to London (England UK). The itinerary (Aug 15-29) visited destinations in Scotland (Lerwick/Mainland Shetland, Invergordon, Leith-Edinburgh, Kirkwall/Orkney Island, Ullapool), Northern Ireland (Belfast), England (Liverpool), Wales (Holyhead/Anglesey Island), Ireland (Dublin), and England (Dover, London-Greenwich). |
