CMV Marco Polo cabins review

Follows the review of ms Marco Polo staterooms as furniture, amenities and complimentary services:

Each of the Marco Polo cruise ship cabins has en-suite bathroom (shower cubicle with plastic curtain, single-sink vanity, WC, hairdryer, bathrobes), sleeping area (twin bed or 2 twins /some convertible to double, bedside tables, Still form mattresses), living area, wardrobe (mirrored doors, ample drawer-hanging-storage space), mirrored vanity/dressing table with a chair, direct-dial phone, electronic safe, mini-bar / fridge), individual air-conditioning (thermostat), music console, LCDTV, wall lighting, nightly turndown service. Some rooms are equipped with additional Pullman beds for a 3rd/4th passenger. Toiletries (unbranded bath products) are regularly replenished and include shower gel/shampoo (wall-mounted) and two soap bars. All staterooms are wood-furnished.

Pullman beds are foldaway beds (aka bunk beds) that are pulled down either from the wall or from the ceiling. On Marco Polo, these beds are mounted on the walls. Categories of staterooms with bunk beds are 2-Standard Plus Twin Inside (on decks Atlantic, Baltic, Caribic), 4-Premium Twin Inside (on decks Columbus, Amundsen, Pacific), 6-7-Standard Twin Oceanview (on decks Atlantic, Baltic, Caribic) and 9-Superior Twin Oceanview (on decks Columbus, Amundsen).

CMV’s onboard TV programming includes news and movie channels (incl BBC News, CNN International, BBC World, Film 4, CBS Drama, The Chart Show), dedicated Marco Polo ship information channel (shore excursions/tours lectures, cruise itinerary port talks, schedule events, cruise director announcements, etc), a Cruise DVD promoting channel, a channel for live cam views (“view from the bridge”).

Most passenger accommodations are with 2 fixed single beds, Only a small number of rooms have convertible beds or fixed queen/king sized beds. Most Standard Plus and below outside rooms are with a porthole window. Higher categories oceanview rooms are with a window. Due to the ship’s old design cabin windows’ sizes vary by deck and location – from slightly bigger than porthole to nearly floor-ceiling.

Each of the Suites (Deluxe and Junior) has a separate sitting area (refrigerator, walk-in closet) and marble bathroom (WC, bathtub, shower stall /curtain). Deluxe Suites have king beds, while Junior Suites are with twin beds (convertible to queen). Both Deluxe Suites are with a forward/bow location and are named Mandarin (706 /portside) and Dynasty (703 /starboard). Junior Suites numbers 811 and 812 are with partially obstructed views (due to lifeboats).

Oceanview cabins have either Picture Window or Porthole Window, depending on deck location. Standard Plus (Cat 8) and lower grades outside cabins are with portholes, higher grades are with windows.

Note: See the deckplan legend about Marco Polo cabin features as bed configurations (2 fixed beds, additional bed for a 3rd/4th person, king/queen bed), obstructed view rooms, and single occupancy cruise staterooms. Due to the ship’s old design, staterooms have different layouts even in the same category. Few staterooms feature beds that convert; most of them are with 2 single beds (fixed).

Room service is 24-hours, but not complimentary. Room service menu includes Caesar salad (GBP 8), soup (GBP 3,50), baguette with cheese and salad (GBP 7), burger with beef (GBP 13), homemade cake (GBP 6), beverages (tea-coffee GBP 1,80). Complimentary in-cabin Continental breakfast is available between 7 – 10 am (cereals, bread, pastries, yogurt, fruits, juices, hot drinks).

Single cabins

MS Marco Polo single cabins are staterooms that can be booked with single-occupancy rates (no single supplement required). All single-occupancy rooms are equipped with 1 lower and 1 upper bed and have en-suite bathrooms.

  • Superior Single Inside (category 5) are located on Caribic Deck 4 and Columbus Deck 10.
  • Standard Single Oceanview (category 10) are located on Pacific Deck 7 and Amundsen Deck 9. Each of those has a picture window. Rooms number 656 and 661 are with a partially obstructed view.

For CMV Marco Polo cruise passengers with disabilities, there are only 2 accessible cabins equipped for passengers with mobility limitations plus their travel companions.
