Review of Mariner Of The Seas deck 5 (Promenade-Lobby-Shops-Helideck)
The fore-located Helideck (helicopter-landing platform) serves as Observation Deck and is accessible to passengers. This Outdoor Deck area has a helipad used in cases of medical emergencies. Here are also held outdoor Yoga classes (at surcharge).
*Star Lounge is the ship's secondary theater, featuring a small bar area. However, guests come here primarily for the game shows and other activities, along with live music.
*Library (42 seats with the RC Online) is a quite lounge (on 2 levels) with a nice book selection, comfortable seating (leather armchairs), small round tables, Internet computers (on level 2 /RC Online).
*Playmaker's Sports Bar & Arcade is complete with about 3 dozen TVs, all of which tuned to sports and sports highlights. It also offers a small pool table, arcade games, outdoor games like oversized Connect Four and giant Jenga, and food menu of items like sliders and wings.
Royal Promenade is a huge interior (shopping mall-like) area linking both atriums (forward and aft). Royal Promenade (length 395 ft / 120 m) is designed to resemble a street – with multiple bars, restaurants, shops and numerous overlooking Atrium Promenade cabins on the decks above. Signature entertainment events here are live performers’ shows (jugglers, comics), nightly organized parades (with DreamWorks characters meets and greets /photo ops). The Royal Caribbean’s Royal Promenade (as a cruise ship design concept) is a technical wonder and an astonishing naval architecture achievement.
Royal Promenade Shops is a shopping arcade with name-brand boutiques selling at duty-free prices luxury fashion-accessories, perfumes-cosmetics, gifts-jewelry, watches-glasses, Royal Caribbean logo merchandise (souvenirs, toys, ship models). There is also a General Store for conveniences, liquor and tobaccos.
*The Bamboo Room was added during refurbishment 2018. This is a Polynesia-themed bar lounge featuring updated versions of tiki cocktails (served in tall glasses and topped with crushed ice), leaf-patterned wall coverings, bamboo and dark wood furniture. The menu includes lots of rum-based cocktails and fruit juices. Bamboo Room's signature cocktail is named "The Royal Zombie", which recipe includes lime juice, cinnamon syrup, passion fruit juice, velvet falernum liqueur, white and dark rums, orange and anise liqueurs, angostura bitters.
Cafe Promenade (menu, 105 seats) is a complimentary, quick-food eatery (patisserie-brasserie-cafe bar) open 24-hours for snacks and drinks. Among the displayed foods are croissant sandwiches (mini), fresh-baked pizzas (in slices), biscotti, cookies, pastries, muffins, cheesecake (Lollipops), ice cream. Free of charge beverages are coffee, tea, water (dispenser). Starbucks drinks cost extra (payments via Starbucks cards / phone app are also accepted). Starbucks coffee prices are as follows: cold drinks (Coffee $4,25, Mocha $4,75), Iced Cafe (Americano $2,75, Latte $3,75, Mocha $4,25), Tazo Tea (Shaken Iced $2, Latte $3, Hot Tea $1,75), Vanilla Steamer ($2,75), Soy Milk ($3), Hot Chocolate ($2,75), hot coffees (at $3,50 - Americano, Cappuccino, Latte, Mocha), White Chocoate Mocha and Caramel Macchiato (each $3,75).
Ben & Jerry’s (ice-cream parlor) is a small, premium ice cream shop (capacity 9 seats) where all delights cost extra. The shop offers fresh-baked waffle cones.
COACH store is a brand boutique shop selling luxury handbags and other leather goods.
Guest Services is the ship’s Reception Desk for 24-hour assistance, information, bookings/reservations, luggage and cashier services.
*Next Cruise office serves the RCI’s onboard cruise booking program and doubles as Loyalty Desk (providing information and assistance regarding the Royal Caribbean loyalty program “Crown & Anchor Society”). By this program there are 6 levels of membership – Gold (3 points), Platinum (30 points), Emerald (55 points), Diamond (80 points), Diamond Plus (175 points) and Pinnacle Club (700 points). Among the corresponding to each level (status) benefits are Onboard Booking Bonus (savings transferred to future OBC /shipboard credit), exclusive services (invitations, trivia, events, lounge access, concierge, privileges), future cruise booking discount rates (vary by itinerary/cabin category), priority services (check-in, reservations, main dining room seating /table location/size requests), Balcony Cabin/Suite booking discounts, early sales access (a day before the general sale), special offers, bonus gifts and amenities.
Shore Excursions Desk provides information on Royal Caribbean cruise tours and excursions (sponsored ashore), also planning and tour booking services.
Wig and Gavel Pub (menu, 29 seats) is a traditional English/Irish pub bar with indoor and outdoor seating (onto the Royal Promenade). The bar’s menu offers a selection of draught beers, ales, international beers, cocktails, spirits. The pub has a large TV, dartboard, and offers as entertainment darts tournaments and live music performances (by a guitarist-singer duo) in the evenings.
The Sound Of Music Restaurant is an aft-located complimentary Dining Room (level 3, capacity 544 seats) serving Dinner only. Club Dining is with 2 fixed sittings (at 6 or 8:30 pm). Your Time Dining is between 6-9:30 pm.
On Deck 5 were also located Lotus Lounge (308 seats, live music, art auctions, bingo, karaoke, gameshows; dance floor, bar), Vintages (wine bar with capacity 66 seats) and Connoisseur Cigar Club.
Vintages Bar has both indoor/outdoor seating (onto the Royal Promenade). The bar’s menu has an extensive selection of fine wines and Champagnes that can be ordered by the glass or bottle. Here are regularly hosted wine education classes and wine tasting events with sommelier service.
Connoisseur Cigar Club (capacity 28 seats) is the ship’s smoking-allowed lounge bar with a cigar humidor and comfortable sitting. Here can be purchased at duty-free prices fine cigars, accessories, quality cigar and pipe tobaccos, as well as premium liquors by the glass. The room’s age restriction is 18+ years old. This is a quiet place to relax and enjoy sophisticated drinks, and also to meet interesting people and share discussions. ”Cigars under the Stars” (pre-scheduled night events) are occasionally offered at some of the outdoor bars – ask the club’s manager about it.
