ms Thomson Spirit (1983-built, last refurbished in 2016, scrapped in 2018) was one of the chartered by Thomson / Marella cruise ships - together with sistership Marella Celebration (formerly Noordam), Marella Dream and Crown Iris. The original shipowner Holland America Line launched it under the name Nieuw Amsterdam. It was operated under a long-term charter by Louis Cruises (rebranded to Celestyal Cruises). The liner was sub-chartered (since 2003) to UK's biggest tour operator Thomson Holidays (now Marella Cruises).
According to the shipowner, the boat left Marella's fleet on October 28, 2018, to join Celestyal Cruises as "Celestyal Spirit". Sadly, on October 29, the vessel (renamed "Mare S") left port Piraeus-Athens to Alang India being sold for scrap.
Thomson Spirit cruise ship deck plan shows a total of 627 staterooms for 1254 passengers (max capacity is 1378 guests), served by 520 crew/staff. The ship has 9 passenger-accessible decks, 4 restaurants, 7 lounges and bars, 2 pools (one is for adults only), 1 Jacuzzi, 7 elevators. Self-service laundry facilities (passenger-use laundrettes) are located on cabin decks 1, 2, 6, 7.
This charming old-design liner features good-sized staterooms, plenty and spacious public rooms, a wrap-around Promenade Deck, both adults-only and kids areas.

Note: The 2014 refurbishment made the Spirit a “Platinum ship”. During the drydock refit, private step-out balconies were added to 19 Suites and Deluxe Balcony cabins located on top deck 9 (Eagle Deck).
