Viking Gullveig (built 2014) is one of the new generation Viking Cruises longships. This river cruise ship is named after a Norse mythology’s beautiful, gold-lusting sorceress Gullveig – the “thrice reborn”. On her journey from Vanir to Asgard, the Aesir gods (Odin, Frigg, Thor, Baldur, Tyr) 3 times cast Gullveig into the fire. She 3 times rises from the flames, becoming Heidr – the knowledgeable volva (shamanic seeress). Her mistreatment caused the Vanir-Aesir war between the gods. The name Gullveig (“gold” + “murky”) in Old Norse means “gold branch”.
Viking Gullveig cruise ship deck plan has a total of 95 staterooms for 190 passengers served by 50 crew/staff, 4 passenger decks, 1 glass elevator (connecting Main-Upper decks only). The Viking longship Gullveig has no gym, pool/whirlpool or spa. Guests may access health & spa facilities at luxury hotels along the Gullveig’s itinerary route.
