A crew member was medevaced from Royal Caribbean's cruise ship Serenade of the Seas by the U.S. Coast Guard.
The evacuation took place on Thursday, March 10, ~80 miles west of Tampa (Florida).
Crew members told rescue crews that their 34-year-old colleague was suffering from abdominal pain. The patient was taken to Tampa General Hospital in stable condition.
No further details have been announced.
According to Chief Warrant Officer Jonathon Trude, Sector St. Petersburg watchstander, the situation was an outstanding example of how their watchstanders and aircrews worked together to respond to any and all calls for help at sea.
“The ability of watchstanders in St. Petersburg to assess the situation, recognize the proximity of the Serenade and launch the aircraft resulted in a positive outcome.”
