P&O Ferries is preparing to get its boats Spirit of Britain and Pride of Kent back in service on the England-France route Dover-Calais "by next week".
The ships will need to pass inspections by the MCA-Maritime Coastguard Agency before resuming passenger shipping operations.
There has not been any confirmation that the inspections, usually taking days, have been booked in.
Vacationers and lorry drivers faced queues close to Dover in recent days. The disruption to P&O's services and bad weather caused long queues of traffic after the Easter holidays started for some.
The UK-based ferry company confirmed that all of its Dover-Calais services would remain suspended over the weekend and another operator, DFDS, wouldn't be able to take P&O clients.
The company expects Spirit of Britain and Pride of Kent will be able to sail.
After the no-notice sacking of 786 P&O employees, travelers hoping to cross the channel were left with fewer options.
P&O Ferries faces criminal/civil investigations into the circumstances around the redundancies.
