Construction on RCI-Royal Caribbean’s 6th OASIS Class ship - Utopia of the Seas - is now underway in Saint-Nazaire (France).
The cruise company revealed the name of the upcoming cruise ship, Utopia OTS, at the steel-cutting ceremony that took place on April 5th at the Chantiers de l‘Atlantique's shipyard. Scheduled for inauguration in spring 2024, the first LNG-powered OASIS class liner will be the world's largest passenger ship designed as an evolution of the class that changed the industry over a decade ago.
At the official ceremony, the newbuild’s first steel piece was cut to mark the beginning of the 30-month construction process. Representatives from RCI and Chantiers de l’Atlantique attended the event, including Jason Liberty, president & CEO, RCG-Royal Caribbean Group; Laurent Castaing, General Manager, Chantiers de l’Atlantique.
Royal Caribbean’s Oasis Class redefined cruising via the introduction of Oasis OTS in 2009. Currently, these liners are known as the ultimate vacations for travelers of all ages. With the inauguration of Wonder OTS in March 2022, the upgraded OASIS-Plus class continues with innovations across each aspect of the cruising experience – from original entertainment to unparalleled thrills, and now the transition to cleaner energy.
After introducing the first LNG-powered Oasis Class ship, RCI will take yet another step towards a clean-energy future with its first LNG liner - Icon OTS, due to debut in 2023-Q3.
