The ultra-premium cruise line and travel brand Azamara celebrated its 15th anniversary on Friday, May 6, as the company pushes the limits of traditional cruising by offering longer stays/overnights to allow immersive discoveries.
On social media, Azamara announced that the first cruise ship to join the line, Azamara Journey, had set sail on the same day back in 2007. Back then, Azamara Journey was purchased by Pullmantur and extensively refurbished in Freeport (Bahamas) prior to the inaugural season to Bermuda.
Azamara has come a long way over the years adding 3 sisterships to the feet of the R-class built for the former Renaissance Cruises. The mid-sized cruise ships had always prime docking spots in port and boasted intimate atmosphere and friendly crew.
Azamara was established by RCG-Royal Caribbean Group and sold in March 2021 to Sycamore Partners for US$201 million.
On January 25, 2021, Sycamore purchased for Azamara the R-Class ship Pacific Princess (now Azamara Onward), which is sistership to/same designed as the other three Azamara boats (Journey, Quest, Pursuit). The new name (Azamara Onward) was officially announced on March 19.
