P&O Cruises UK released a behind-the-scenes video showcasing the first-ever escape room experience at sea, Mission Control.
Available exclusively on the line's newest ship Arvia which is due to launch in December 2022, Mission Control is an immersive experience, combining the escape game with multimedia simulation & live-action story.
Mission Control offers a couple of 1-hour experiences: a family-friendly adventure available for all ages and an adventure specially designed for adults. Set onboard a fictional submarine Arvia 2, vacationers will board in groups of up to ten to form a team of marine explorers/underwater detectives under the guidance of Doctor Melissa Ryan, a virtual character who'll guide them through their mission.
The 3D surroundings will take travelers into ocean canyons, encountering underwater creatures and sunken cities. Fully interactive consoles and motion simulation put them at the heart of the action. 3D surround sound completes the experience.
To create an authentic passenger experience onboard the newbuild, the developers at Tennagels (Dusseldorf-based technology company) had to understand the controls/technological functions of a real submarine and build these into Arvia 2 to create a compelling story.
P&O Cruises president Paul Ludlow said they had wanted to create something brand new and believed that was the first of its kind in the world.
"Our technology partner specializes in things that have never been done before so boarding Arvia II is guaranteed to wow our guests and be like being in the biggest blockbuster movie.
“The unique environmental experience will also leave guests with a greater awareness of the need to protect our fragile marine ecosystems.”
