Viking Saturn ship - the newest in the Viking Ocean Cruises fleet and currently under construction by Fincantieri, was floated out on Thursday, June 23, at the shipyard in Ancona (Italy) in the presence of Viking's Chairman, Torstein Hagen, and Fincantieri's CEO Pierroberto Folgiero.
Elena Del Mastro (shipyard employee) served as Madrina/Godmother of the launch ceremony.
The newbuild will be placed in the small cruise ship segment. Like her sisterships, she is ~47,800 tons, 465 staterooms with accommodation for 930 guests.
Viking Saturn, the 10th of this class, was designed by experienced naval architects and engineers, such as an interior design team of Los Angeles-based Rottet Studios and London-based SMC Design, who gave the vessel a modern Scandinavian design, characterized by "sophisticated yet functional elegance."
In addition to Saturn's all-veranda staterooms, she also has spacious suites with ocean views, 2 pools, of which one infinity off the stern, abundant al fresco dining options, and a Spa designed according to the Scandinavian wellness philosophy, with a sauna and a snow grotto.
Viking's units are built according to the latest navigation regulations as well as equipped with the most modern safety systems, and the “safe return to port”. They all feature energy-efficient engines, optimized hydrodynamics and hull reducing consumption, as well as systems that minimize pollution produced by exhaust gases, thus meeting the strictest environmental regulations.
