River cruise line AmaWaterways celebrated the official christening of its newest riverboat - AmaLucia, with a festive ceremony in Rudesheim am Rhein (Germany Hesse) on Sunday, July 31.
AmaWaterways’ Co-Founders, Rudi Schreiner (President) and Kristin Karst (Executive Vice President) joined Godparents Riley and Will Farmer, children of AmaWaterways’ business partner Colin Farmer (Senior Managing Director of Certares Management LLC - a private equity firm specializing in investments in travel companies).
The festivities started as the Godparents of AmaLucia arrived by vineyard tractor. Guests enjoyed special appearances by Rudesheim’s Wine Princesses as well as the grandchildren of the founder of Rudesheim’s Siegfried’s Mechanical Musical Cabinet who shared fascinating musical machines restored and put on display. Following a tradition associated with ship christenings that originates 4,000+ years ago, Captain Arjan assisted as the Godparents broke a champagne bottle against the hull of the ship, signifying good luck on the voyages ahead.
After the christening celebration and dinner, all attendees enjoyed a Sun Deck party with live music performed by AmaWaterways’ Corporate Musician David Onka, who also performed “Ama Means Love (Family)”, his original song, during the afternoon ceremony.
Sistership to AmaKristina, AmaLea, and AmaSiena, AmaLucia sails between homeports Amsterdam (Netherlands) and Basel-Zurich (Switzerland) on 7-night Rhine itineraries including Captivating Rhine, Enchanting Rhine, and Christmas Markets on the Rhine with pre-/post-cruise 2-night land packages.
Starting in 2023, AmaLucia will sail the Dutch and Belgium Waterways on Tulip Time and Best of Holland & Belgium itineraries.
