NCL-Norwegian Cruise Line's ship Norwegian Prima got a rock star send-off this Saturday, August 27, when Katy Perry did the honours at an official ceremony in Iceland where the pop superstar performed for guests in Reykjavík.
The first of 6 ships in NCL's PRIMA-Class, the launch party of the newbuild was attended by 2500+ guests who enjoyed the immersive experience in the Icelandic capital and a christening like no other.
At LOA length 294 m, volume 143,535+ GT-tons, max passenger capacity 3950 (3100 lower berths) and 20 decks (16 passenger-accessible, 9 with cabins/1646 staterooms)., NCL's Prima ship offers the highest staffing levels and space ratio of any contemporary/premium cruise liner. She boasts the largest variety of suite categories at sea and a redefined luxury area, The Haven by Norwegian as well as the fastest slides at sea: The Drop and The Rush. Not to forget the Prima Speedway, a 3-level racetrack.
Outdoor areas include the 4088 m2 Ocean Boulevard - an outdoor walkway that wraps around the entire vessel; and The Concourse, with its multi-million dollar outdoor sculpture garden.
Guests at the ceremony were treated to a performance by a popular Icelandic group and 2021 “Eurovision Song Contest” fan favorites, “Dah-they Oh Gack-no-Mak-ne”, before Prima’s godmother, Katy Perry took to the stage to officially name christen the ship with the ceremonial champagne bottle break across the hull.
The 3-level Prima Theater & Club stage was transformed into a backdrop where guests enjoyed a performance of some of Perry’s chart-topping hits like “California Gurls,” “Teenage Dream,” “Firework,” and “Roar.”
Norwegian Prima is scheduled to depart on inaugural voyages to Northern Europe beginning September 3rd, before making her way to the USA, for the Caribbean deployment based on homeporting in the USA (Port Canaveral/Orlando Florida, NYC New York, Galveston TX).
