Hurricane Kay, a Category 1 storm with max sustained winds of 100 miles per hour, caused one CCL-Carnival Cruise Line vessel to change its current itinerary.
Carnival Panorama canceled a call port, rescheduled two other visits, and added a new call port to her current voyage, all because of the storm's projected impact.
The liner is currently sailing on a 7-night Mexican Riviera itinerary roundtrip from Los Angeles (California USA). Aside from the departure on Saturday, September 3, very little remained of the original itinerary as call ports previously included Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco (Sept 6), Mazatlan, Sinaloa (Sept 7), and Cabo San Lucas (Sept 8).
Instead, after only one day at sea, the ship visited Cabo San Lucas on September 5. When passengers reboarded, they learned about more itinerary changes.
Wednesday and Thursday were sea days, and the visit to Puerto Vallarta was canceled. Instead, Carnival Panorama visited Ensenada on Friday, September 9.
The letter said:
"The safety of our guests and crew remains our top priority. So we will continue to monitor the weather and provide you with further updates as needed."
All pre-purchased tours and excursions to Mazatlan were rescheduled to the new visit date. Tours to Puerto Vallarta were refunded to passenger accounts.
