P&O UK's newest ship Arvia suffered a minor fire while undergoing the final stage of building at Meyer Werft's shipyard in Papenburg (Lower Saxony, Germany) on Thursday, September 8.
The fire reportedly broke out during welding work in the pool equipment room of the vessel. Arvia was recently undocked and is located on the outfitting quay of Meyer shipyard.
During the firefighting operation onboard the 344-m/19-deck vessel, all workers were evacuated.
The yard’s fire brigade was the first on the site. It started firefighting measures after the accident was reported at 01:30 p.m. Local fire brigades arrived shortly after.
The fire was extinguished at~03:30 p.m.
No injuries have been reported and the construction works will continue onboard the ship.
