Viking Cruises announced on Tuesday, September 27, that it had taken delivery of its second newbuild expedition ship - Viking Polaris.
The delivery ceremony was held at Fincantieri’s VARD shipyard in Soviknes (Norway), where Viking's first expedition ship - Viking Octantis, was delivered in December 2021.
Viking Polaris is currently en route (satellite AIS tracker) to Amsterdam Netherlands, where she will be christened on September 30th by godmother Ann Bancroft.
Currently operating in the Great Lakes, Viking Octantis will also be officially christened on September 30th by godmother Liv Arnesen.
From Port Amsterdam, Polaris will head to South America, and both expedition ships will spend the winter/Austral summer in Antarctica prior to sailing north to the Great Lakes for the spring & summer seasons.
Torstein Hagen (Viking's Chairman) said it was a proud day for the Viking family as they welcomed Viking Polaris to their fleet.
"These are phenomenal ships, and we are very pleased with the positive reception from guests during the first season of our new expeditions.
“The great explorer, Ann Bancroft, has honored us by serving as godmother to the Viking Polaris, and we look forward to welcoming her first guests on board later this week.”
