Celebrity Cruises started offering internet services via SpaceX’s Starlink satellite network onboard its Celebrity Eclipse ship, making it the first and only sailing in the South Pacific, Australia, and New Zealand to provide the service.
The interconnected internet technology provides game-changing high-speed connectivity and enables more high-bandwidth use for crew and guests.
Passengers aboard Celebrity Eclipse are sailing on a 12-night round-trip New Zealand voyage from Sydney NSW. The ship will make 17 sailings departing from Auckland and Sydney through April 2023.
Earlier in 2022, RCG-Royal Caribbean Group announced a partnership with SpaceX for the technology's deployment for every single ship in RCI-Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, and Silversea fleet.
Currently, 3 out of 15 Celebrity Cruises ships offer SpaceX’s Starlink, including Celebrity Beyond, Celebrity Eclipse, and Celebrity Edge, with the remaining due to be complete by the end of the first quarter of next year.
In October 2022, Celebrity Cruises announced that Celebrity Beyond was the first in the fleet to offer guests access to Elon Musk's Starlink Internet at sea. The technology was introduced as a way to give vacationers in remote locations better access to the internet, making it best for industries like cruises and air travel.
