On December 1, 2022, a lifeboat from the RCI-Royal Caribbean ship Quantum of the Seas detached from the davits and fell into the water.
Portside lifeboat number 12 hit deck 5 (where it was mounted) before falling over the side and into the water. Then its bow struck the ship's hull. It was retrieved with dents/cracks on the starboard aft corner, as well as damage to the fiberglass underside.
The accident occurred during tendering operations at Aneityum Island (Vanuatu).
At that time Quantum of the Seas was on a 10-day "South Pacific Cruise" roundtrip from Brisbane (Queensland Australia) visiting Noumea, Grande Terre island, New Caledonia (Nov 30th), Mystery Island/Aneityum, Vanuatu (Dec 1st), and Port Vila, Efate Island, Vanuatu (Dec 3rd-4th).
