CCL-Carnival Cruise Line announced the cancellation of a month of voyages onboard its Carnival Vista ship in early 2024 so the vessel can enter drydock.
In an email to passengers booked on sailings from January 7th, 2024 through/including February 10th, 2024, the cruise line said that in their continuous efforts to enhance their product, Carnival Vista had now been scheduled for dry dock.
"As a result, we’re sorry to inform you that your reservation has been cancelled. We have a variety of alternatives and are confident you will find another Carnival cruise that is filled with an equal amount of FUN. Our team is ready to discuss options and rebook you on another Carnival cruise right away.”
Carnival has not detailed the reasons for the unexpected dry dock, but it is likely due to the propulsion issues that have plagued Carnival Vista since her debut in 2016. In September 2022, the company announced that 6 voyages this fall & winter had to be modified, telling guests they had "to implement a work schedule to address an unexpected issue on Carnival Vista" and would be conducting maintenance on the ship, which meant the ship would not be unable to sustain the max speed necessary to operate.
As for the early 2024 voyages that have been canceled, guests have 2 options. They can rebook on a comparable cruise in a similar cabin and have the rate that they originally paid protected (except for on select trips like those over a major holiday). They will also receive US$50 in onboard credit per person, up to US$100 per cabin.
Those who do not want to reschedule can request a full refund.
Vista currently operates 7-night Western Caribbean roundtrips from Galveston (Texas USA). In fall 2023, she is scheduled to begin sailing 6- and 8-night Caribbean roundtrips from Port Canaveral/Orlando (Florida USA).
