Scylla's luxury river cruise travel brand VIVA Cruises (fleet) announced the expansion of its 2nd build ship, MS VIVA Two, in 2023.
Following the launch of its first newbuild boat (VIVA One) in spring 2022, the Dusseldorf-based company is about to reach another major milestone. On March 23, 2023, VIVA Two will be officially christened in homeport Dusseldorf (Germany) and will set off on her inaugural cruise from Frankfurt am Main to Passau on April 1st.
Andrea Kruse (VIVA's Managing Director) said they were delighted to be able to welcome nationally and internationally invited VIP guests and business partners to VIVA Two's christening ceremony and to send her off on the maiden voyage.
Arno Reitsma (Managing Director of VIVA Cruises and Scylla AG) added they would also be using the day to present the new riverboat to their guests for the first time and to introduce them to their innovative concept in architecture and design as well as innovations in the technical area.
VIVA Two has a total of 95 staterooms accommodating up to 190 guests, making her the new flagship of the VIVA's fleet.
Also new is the architecture, with a restaurant area and an open lounge. The major technical innovation is the exhaust system of the ship, to which a catalytic converter/particle filter was added. This enables VIVA Two to meet the EU Stage V exhaust emission standard, regulating strict compliance with emissions in both domestic and European inland shipping. Like all VIVA's riverboats, VIVA Two is equipped with technology to use shore power during in-port moorings.
According to Arno Reitsma, that was a big step towards more sustainability and at the same time a prerequisite for the mandatory Gold Ecolabel of the international environmental award, the Green Award. With their second new build ship, they were "once again focusing on sustainable construction and on moving forward with a heavy focus on the environment and the current times.”
With the sustainable build of VIVA Two, the VIVA Cruises company aims towards The Green Award certification proving the proactive implementation of measures to protect the environment along with the high safety standards of the vessels.
