A luxury cruise ship on a voyage around New Zealand's sub-Antarctic islands headed to Bluff so an injured passenger could receive medical treatment.
A spokesperson for French cruise ship operator Ponant said the passenger had slipped and fractured her shoulder while onboard the Le Soleal ship, which was on a 2-week cruise of the sub-antarctic.
The cruise passenger was said to be well and not at risk but disembarked in Bluff at ~2:00 p.m. Thursday afternoon, January 5th, to be taken care of.
Le Soleal headed back out to sea an hour later, continuing her itinerary as scheduled.
The vessel was due to visit Macquarie Island, Campbell, and the Antipodes, before returning to Dunedin on January 11th.
