A man in his 30s was flown to Waikato Hospital in Hamilton (New Zealand) after being injured in a fall on board the Princess Cruises' Coral Princess ship.
According to Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trust, he needed to be extracted by winch. The patient was flown to Waikato Hospital in a serious condition.
A company spokesperson said it was a crew involved in the accident.
"After receiving medical care onboard, the crew member was transported ashore for additional support. We continue to support our crew member in their recovery."
The cruise ship, which was 45 NM/nautical miles (83 km / 52 mi) off the coast northwest of New Plymouth NZ, contacted the Rescue Coordination Centre at ~5 am on Tuesday, January 10th, requesting assistance.
At the time of the incident Coral Princess was on a 14-day New Zealand cruise roundtrip from Auckland, themed "New Year". The itinerary started on December 29th, 2022, and ends on January 12th, 2023.
