Passenger ship Astoria Grande (fka AIDAcara) collided with a breakwater at ~9 am local time (~6 am UTC) on Wednesday, January 18th, while trying to enter the port of Amasra (Bartin, Turkey) on the Black sea coast.
The vessel with a total of 385 passengers and 283 crew members onboard arrived from the port of Sochi (Russia) and tried to dock at Port Amasra in rough weather.
Strong wind is said to be the cause of an accident.
The Astoria Grande ship left the harbor and sailed further to sea off Amasra, to wait out the weather.
The ship might have suffered underwater hull damages and is to be surveyed by divers.
The 1996-built (as "MS Clubschiff") cruise ship Astoria Grande was operated between 1996-2021 as "AIDAcara" - the first boat of the German travel brand AIDA Cruises.
For AIDA Cruises, the vessel (IMO number 9112789) was Italy-flagged (MMSI 247117300) and registered in Genova. Astoria Grande is with the current registry in Palau, and operator Aquilon, Moscow.
