Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg (Germany) provided an update on the construction of CCL-Carnival Cruise Line's newest ship Carnival Jubilee, highlighting the progress made in recent weeks.
Jubilee is Carnival's first Excel-class ship to be built for the line in Germany, marking a milestone for the company.
The newbuild is expected to be completed in the 2nd half of 2023, with the maiden voyage due to take place in December.
Construction of the 180,000 GT ship began in March 2022 when Carnival and Meyer Werft celebrated the cutting of the first steel. Jubilee's keel was laid in July 2022 and since then the yard has been working hard to bring the ship to completion.
On January 17th, 2023, Meyer Werft provided an update on the construction, showing the final coat of blue paint on Carnival Jubilee.
On their Facebook page, Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany stated:
"The year 2023 is now a few days old, so it's high time to repost a recent photo from our dock: The Carnival Jubilee is currently under construction in Hall 6, with its light with the blue color and ready ship name, she is an impressive sight.
"Work on and inside the 345m ship for the US shipping company Carnival Cruise Line continues to progress. When completed, it will in no way be inferior to its Turku-built sisters, the Mardi Gras and Carnival celebrations.”
The liner now boasts a shimmering blue hull paint, along with a red stripe along the hull's edge, and flowing name lines on the side. The full pan is painted, with no visible bare metal.
During the coming months, the shipyard will install major fun items like Carnival's signature whale tail funnel and the BOLT roller coaster.
The cruise line will soon reveal more details about the new ship, as several areas on decks 6, 7 and 8 have yet to be revealed. Carnival is expected to come up with a number of new venues and spaces for Jubilee.
Carnival Jubilee was scheduled to set sail on her maiden voyage from Southampton (England UK). However, due to delays in the supply chain, this journey and several others were canceled. Affected sailings include all voyages from October 30th, 2023, up to/including sailings from December 16th, 2023.
Because of the delay, the maiden voyage of Carnival Jubilee will now set sail from Galveston TX on December 23rd, 2023. Further details on the sailing are not available yet.
Once finished, Carnival Jubilee will be based in Galveston TX year-round and will operate 7-day voyages to the Western Caribbean departing on Saturdays. The vessel has passenger capacity 5347 (lower berths/at double occupancy) and max capacity 6631 passengers (all berths).
