The newest ship for Celebrity Cruises - Celebrity Ascent, is a step closer to joining the fleet.
On Saturday, January 21st, Celebrity announced that the vessel had reached a major milestone during its construction by the shipbuilder STX France.
The company stated in a press release:
“On a beautiful, sunny day in France, Celebrity Ascent, the fourth ship in Celebrity Cruises’ industry-transforming Edge Series, officially touched water for the first time today, as she was floated out from the Chantiers de l'Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire”.
According to Lisa Lutoff-Perlo (Celebrity’s CEO), this important construction milestone was the perfect way to celebrate the start of 2023. She also expressed how grateful she was for the collaboration between the shipyard crew in France and the team of Celebrity. Lutoff-Perlo particularly thanked all of those involved in Ascent's construction for their expertise/passion.
With the completion of this construction phase, Celebrity Ascent’s hull/exterior superstructure is now finished. This means the new Edge series vessel will move on to the next phase of construction in Saint-Nazaire, France.
Lutoff-Perlo shared that the momentum and anticipation were quickly building for that ship and they would continue to share her progress and all that awaited their guests onboard that next installation in their "groundbreaking, next-generation Edge Series.”
In Ascent’s next phase of construction, the ship will moor in a new location, where interior works/outfitting works will be conducted in the coming months.
The line shared that Celebrity Ascent will be Beyond’s “twin sister” in every way.
Along with the announcement of the milestone, Celebrity also shared additional details about its highly-awaited ship, Celebrity Ascent.
Scheduled to debut in December 2023, Ascent is virtually identical to the sistership Celebrity Beyond. The company refers to the new Celebrity Ascent as Beyond’s “twin sister” ship.
Lutoff-Perlo described the new boat as, “So much more than a ship, Celebrity Ascent will be the embodiment of a relaxed luxury resort at sea”.
