CG-Coast Guard aircrews medevaced a cruise passenger from RCI-Royal Caribbean's ship Symphony OTS on Monday, February 6th, and a second passenger from Celebrity's ship Edge on Sunday, February 5th, in the Atlantic Ocean close to Dominicana.
During Monday’s accident, a CG Air Station Borinquen MH-60T Jayhawk aircrew medevaced an 18-year-old American man from Symphony of the Seas, with an abdominal medical emergency requiring a higher level of care ashore.
USCG Sector San Juan Puerto Rico received communication from the ship Sunday evening, requesting assistance to transport a cruise passenger to a local hospital. Watchstanders directed the launch of a CG Air Station Borinquen MH-60T Jayhawk helicopter that rendezvoused with the liner, ~150 NM/~170 mi/~280 km northwest of Aguadilla (Puerto Rico). The aircrew deployed a rescue swimmer to conduct a litter hoist and bring the patient, his mother, and a ship nurse safely onto the helicopter.
During Sunday’s accident, the crew of a CG Air Station MH-60T Jayhawk medevaced a 79-year-old American man from Celebrity Edge with an abdominal medical emergency requiring a higher level of care ashore.
CG Sector San Juan received communication from the ship Sunday afternoon, requesting assistance to transport a passenger to a local hospital. Watchstanders directed the launch of a CG Air Station Borinquen MH-60T Jayhawk helicopter that rendezvoused with the ship ~140 NM/~160 mi/~260 km northwest of Aguadilla. The patient and a ship nurse were hoisted onto the aircraft.
In both cases, the USCG aircrews transported the medevaced passengers to Fernando Luis Ribas Dominicci Airport in San Juan (Puerto Rico), from where they were ambulanced to Centro Medico de Puerto Rico (hospital).
