A woman on a Virgin Voyages cruise ship from PortMiami Florida died after falling from a balcony on the ship on Sunday, April 2nd, reportedly landing on another guest.
The woman tumbled from her stateroom balcony (deck 14) onto a deck below (deck 7) shortly after the liner set sail for Roatan (Honduras).
A Virgin Voyages spokesperson said in a statement the passenger had gone over their balcony onto a lower deck, and despite receiving immediate medical attention, had passed away.
When the woman plunged to the lower deck of Virgin’s Valiant Lady ship, she fell on top of another cruise passenger.
Luckily, that person was doing OK.
Valiant Lady was immediately turned around and returned to PortMiami following the death.
Virgin Voyages said crews were working with local officials there.
The ship has since restarted sailing with an adjusted itinerary, including the missed port of call in Roatan.
The company spokesperson said they were deeply saddened by the loss of life and their hearts and thoughts were with that person’s loved ones.
At the time of the accident, Valiant Lady was on a 6-day Western Caribbean Charm Cruise roundtrip from Miami.
