In an unfortunate turn of events, a 93-year-old woman aboard the Carnival Vista cruise ship had to be evacuated and taken to a local hospital in Galveston Texas on Sunday, April 9th.
The Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston was alerted about the situation at 10:18 p.m. when the woman began experiencing symptoms of respiratory failure, pneumonia, and septic shock.
After consultation with the duty flight surgeon, a medevac was deemed necessary and the Coast Guard Air Station Houston MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew was deployed.
The crew promptly arrived at the CCL-Carnival ship and transported the passenger, along with one of the cruise ship nurses, to the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston TX.
The most recent report on the woman's condition is that she is stable.
At the time of the accident, the liner was sailing on a 7-day, round-trip Western Caribbean cruise roundtrip from Galveston, themed "Easter".
