The Chinese shipbuilder COMEC Guangzhou Shipyard (in Gangzhou) delivered the new-generation Moby Fantasy cruiseferry to MOBY LINES.
MOBY's flagship is expected to arrive at Port Livorno (Italy) in mid-May.
The sistership Moby Legacy, the second newbuild ferry, is still under construction and is expected to be completed by the end of summer.
Moby Fantasy, which features a Blue Whale painted on the side, is set to leave China in the coming days and cross two oceans and via the Suez Canal to reach Europe/Mediterranean Sea, where it will operate on the Livorno-Olbia Sardinia route (crossing time 6 hours).
The vessel has LOA length 237 m, width 32 m, volume/GT-tonnage 69500 tons, max capacity 3000 passengers and 3850 linear meters of wheeled cargo (1300 cars or 300 trucks/semi-trailers), making it the world's largest passenger ferry.
Moby Fantasy was designed with advanced equipment and technology to meet sustainability standards, aiming to protect the environment and facilitate the transition to clean energy and reduce emissions.
This eco-friendly vessel has obtained EEDI3 certification, reducing emissions by more than 50% compared to traditional ferries used on similar routes, making it the first ferry in the world to receive such certification.
