Juneau (Alaska) and major cruise shipping companies have signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to limit the number of large vessels in port per day to no more than five.
The agreement, which was negotiated by Juneau and Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), is based on recommendations from the Visitor Industry Task Force (VITF) in 2020 and demonstrates the partnership between the parties.
The limit is intended to ensure a positive experience for both residents and visitors, provide a reliable market for local businesses that rely on the visitor industry, and maintain a vibrant and sustainable visitor industry in Juneau and Southeast Alaska.

The development of a 2024 schedule that met this threshold was made possible by all parties working together, including Cruise Line Agencies of Alaska.
This is the second MOA based on VITF Goals, and it is an important step as CBJ and cruise lines continue to work together to meet community goals while considering the complex logistics of cruise line operations.
