Soon after the departure from Port Hamburg (Germany), a crew member onboard MSC Virtuosa ship required urgent medical attention and had to be evacuated.
The liner, which had ~6300 passengers at the time, left the Cruise Center Steinwerder/terminal and was heading to Zeebrugge (Belgium) Sunday evening, April 16th, when the medical emergency alarm was sounded.
The Captain immediately turned the ship back to Hamburg and the man was offloaded and ambulanced to a nearby clinic.
The identity and details of the medical emergency were not revealed.
The ship's second departure from Hamburg was delayed until 3:30 am on Monday, April 17th, due to increased traffic on the Elbe River.
MSC Virtuosa spent a day at sea in the North Sea and will not be visiting Hamburg again until the upcoming summer of 2023 when she will be homeported in Southampton England.
