On April 28, 2023, Silversea and Meyer Werft Gmbh celebrated the launch of Silver Nova at Papenburg Shipyard (Germany). The vessel was moved from the construction hall to the harbor after it was filled with water by tugboats. Silver Nova is set to become the 12th ship in Silversea's ultra-luxury cruise line and the most environmentally conscious ultra-luxury cruise ship ever built.
Captain Cosimo Pontillo welded a special coin to a wall on the pool deck to commemorate the milestone and adhere to shipbuilding traditions. The ship's hull was cleaned, and its LNG and radar masts were installed by Meyer Werft's skilled craftspeople. Silver Nova's next journey will be a conveyance of 32km down the narrow Ems River to the sea, which is unique to the Meyer Werft shipyard.
Silver Nova is currently under construction in Papenburg as the first of two Nova-class ships. She will become the most sustainable ultra-luxury ship ever launched when she joins Silversea's fleet in the summer of 2023. The ship boasts the largest choice of bars, restaurants, and lounges in ultra-luxury cruising, spacious guest suites at sea, and innovative features such as an asymmetrical design and horizontal layout that are unprecedented for the leading ultra-luxury cruise line. The coin welded to the pool deck by Captain Cosimo Pontillo will remain visible to the ship's future guests as a symbol of good luck.
