Saga Cruises announced it was incredibly proud that Camilla, Queen Consort was the Godmother of its ocean ship, Spirit of Discovery and in honor of the Coronation of King Charles and Queen Camilla, Saga was promising its guests "the best of British celebrations" onboard.
Spirit of Discovery, which was christened by the Duchess of Cornwall on July 5th, 2019, will be departing from Portsmouth on Coronation Day (May 6th) on a 15-night voyage of Spain and the Balearics.
The sailing has proven to be incredibly popular and the onboard team will be making sure "the Coronation is celebrated in style."
The event will begin early on May 6th with coverage of the big occasion for the UK being shown throughout the day in the Playhouse Theatre on the ship. The crew will be dressed in their full blues uniform and guests will be welcomed with champagne and British sparkling wine from Balfour Brut Estate in Kent. To commemorate the special occasion, a specially crafted cocktail called the English Garden Martini will be served, along with other very British options such as Pimm's and Buck's Fizz.
Before the ship departs at 5:00 p.m., the Orpheus Male Voice Choir will perform and guests will be invited to the ship's decks to sing the National Anthem and toast to King Charles and Queen Camilla. The ship will be decorated with bunting and Union Flags to create a true British atmosphere.
In the evening, guests will enjoy a dinner featuring the famous Coronation quiche, followed by a special Coronation Celebration Show and a party in the Britannia Lounge, both put on by the entertainment team.
Nigel Blanks (Saga's CEO) said they were incredibly honored that Camilla, Queen Consort, was the Godmother of their ocean ship, Spirit of Discovery and in honor of the Coronation, they would be pulling out the stops on board to celebrate.
“Britain is wonderful at celebrating these State occasions and we’ll be joining in with music, food, drink, flags and bunting. As the ship departs Portsmouth International Port we’ll be inviting our guests to join us for the National Anthem, ahead of an evening of entertainment and celebration.”
